Colin Higman RIP

Autospeed were extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Colin Higman, one of the all-time legends of Stock Car racing.
Having first started out in the 1960s, Colin went on to race in seven successive decades, achieving remarkable success, highlighted by back-to-back BriSCA F2 Stock Car World title victories in 1975 and 1976.

Shortly after those two gold roof victories, Colin began to build cars for other drivers.  Colin Higman Racing Services swiftly forged a position as a highly respected outlet for drivers wanting advice and guidance, extending to the supply of a whole array ranging from parts to complete cars.
Whilst BriSCA F2 Stock Cars and Superstox were the mainstay of Colin’s involvement, he also raced National Hot Rods for a period.
In addition to Colin’s World title wins, he recorded plenty more notable successes in BriSCA F2 Stock Car racing, including the Grand National Championship and the F2 Challenge Trophy, along with the European Championship he won in Northern Ireland in 1991.  Colin was the first winner of The Ladies Trophy in 1996.

Colin served on the British Stock Car Drivers’ Association (BSCDA F2) for many, many years, and as a committee member, was held in high regard by the numerous promoters he engaged with as part of furthering the sport,
After a last ever BriSCA F2 race appearance in October 2010, a special tribute fixture was held at Smeatharpe in August 2012.  Colin then went on to serve many seasons in a scrutineering role, before the onset of dementia brought a change of life circumstances in his later years.
Our thoughts are with Colin, his wife Jill, their daughters Sarah and Nicola, and their respective extended families.
Colin Higman, racer, car constructor, committee member, race official and family man and above all, a gentleman of Stock Car racing.
