On This Day - 28th July

On this day in 1991, the Saloon Stock Cars English Championship at Newton Abbot produced a stunning race, which had an astonishing climax following last lap lead changes.  World Champion 121 Kevin Shinn had carried out the random draw for grid positions, during which he managed to select the very last position on the grid for himself.  37 Barry Trickey had a spell in the lead, before he was removed by backmarker 173 Paul Stockley.  156 Ray Goudy looked on course for victory, but was delayed late on, which led to him being caught up by the chasing group which included 121 Kevin Shinn and 52 Brian Tingley, and it was Shinn who came out on top to win by a narrow margin.
