Team Autospeed Training Day

With no racing programmed on 26 April, the day provided an ideal opportunity for the track staff to undertake their ORCi training in race day procedures, rescue and fire fighting.

On a slightly chilly day at Smeatharpe, team members (both old and new) combined with colleagues from our Security team and St John Ambulance to practice all those important skills which underpin an event, to ensure an "as safe as possible" day of racing.

Also in attendance was that bard of the airways, Jonny Hoare, who interviewed staff members for a forthcoming radio feature. The interviews included comments from our newest recruit Sam Rees through to more seasoned team members. It is often quoted (and something of a cliche) but without track staff there would be no racing - being an integral part of an event.

The team spirit goes across the whole team, including Emily Dugay (one of our regular trophy presenters), who also undertook the training including the fire fighting. To make it a further family event Emily's dad Simon also volunteered to be the one rescued from the car.  Simon said "It was a great experience, the team made me feel safe, and acted very professionally."  He continued, "People do not fully appreciate the work put in and the skills involved."

The team consists of several father-son, mother-daughter and husband-wife combinations which again is and indication of the family aspect of our racing.

We at Autospeed are rightly proud of our track staff.  The effort and support all help to make a raceday and we wish to record our thanks to them all.
