Practice Events - Smeatharpe - 4 & 5 July

We have some exciting news for the Autospeed family.  The response ahead of the Community Open Day at Smeatharpe on Saturday 27 June is hugely promising, and we feel confident that the stadium will be ready for our first Practice Event which will, in turn, mark another notable step towards the resumption of the short oval racing season.  Accordingly, we will be staging Practice Events at Smeatharpe over the weekend of Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July 2020.

To enable us to plan for the Practice Events, there has been a large amount of work behind the scenes.  Autospeed will adhere to the government guidelines regarding Covid-19 and its effect on ‘The Visitor Economy’ – this document has been absolutely key to us making the decision to proceed with the Practice Events.  Our next step has been to secure approval from the Environmental Health department of the Local Authority, and we are extremely pleased with the support that they have offered.  Further guidance will be derived from the method statement published by the ORCi.

Timings & Formulas
The Practice Events will be split into three sessions.  There is a marked difference between Saturday, and Sunday.  Much thought and discussion has gone into this timetable, and we are urging everyone involved to respect this.  We are faced with operating in challenging times, and it is essential that everyone understands this, and co-operates.  This has been so arranged to ensure drivers have the opportunity of a decent amount of track time during their visit to the stadium, with minimal waiting time between runs.

Saturday 4 July
Drivers will be permitted entry to the pit area from 2.30pm.  This session will run from 3.00pm until 6.00pm.  All drivers will be expected to have vacated the pit area by 6.30pm.
This Session is exclusively for:
BriSCA F2 Micro Stock Cars
V8 Stock Cars (if sufficient numbers)
Modstox (if sufficient numbers)
This session is ‘behind closed doors’ and thus, no other persons will be permitted entrance into the stadium. NO SPECTATORS ARE PERMITTED.

Sunday 5 July – Session 1
Drivers for Session 1 will be permitted entry to the pit area from 10.30am.  Session 1 will run from 11.00am until 2.00pm.  All Session 1 drivers will be expected to have vacated the pit area by 2.30pm.
BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
Ministox
Saloon Stock Cars

Sunday 5 July – Session 2
Drivers for Session 2 will be permitted entry to the pit area from 2.30pm.  Session 2 will run from 3.00pm until 6.00pm.  All Session 2 drivers will be expected to have vacated the pit area by 6.30pm.
Bangers (all classes – Rookies, Back 2 Basics, Nationals)
Stock Rods
Others – note that all formulas must be ORC recognised.
Formulas not listed are advised to contact Autospeed to check availability.
There will be no practice availability for Ninja Karts as the circuit is not compatible.

Cost
Entrance fees must be paid in advance.  There is categorically no facility to pay on arrival.  One of the conditions for staging the Practice Events is that Autospeed must have a register of all persons attending – hence the requirement to pay entry fees in advance.
The price for practice will be £40 per driver, which is the minimum level set by the ORCi for tarmac circuits.
Please note that car sharing is NOT permitted.
On Sunday there will be limited availability for spectators.  The price for spectators is £10 per person and £5 per child.  Nobody is forcing spectators to attend, and if you feel this cost is too high, we fully understand.  However, whilst Autospeed want everyone in attendance to enjoy their visit to Smeatharpe, it must be remembered that this is a business; one that has not been able to trade for more than three months.  For Autospeed to go to the trouble of staging the Practice Events, they have to be on a sound business footing.  Again, we ask everyone involved to understand and respect that.

Booking Information
It is essential that all bookings are made and paid for in advance.
Saturday bookings must be confirmed by 5.00pm on Thursday 2 July 2020.
Drivers booking will also need to name all persons attending with them.
Sunday Session 1 & Session 2 bookings must be confirmed by 5.00pm on Friday 3 July 2020.
Drivers booking will also need to name the one person who is attending with them as their mechanic.  Beyond Driver Plus One, other persons attending with the Driver must book and pay in advance for a Spectator entry for Sunday.

Attendance & PPE
For Saturday, only persons arriving with the Driver will be admitted into the stadium.
For Sunday Sessions 1 & 2, it will be strictly Driver + 1 mechanic.
Additionally, there will be limited availability for spectators, and other crew members.
All personnel (drivers, mechanics and spectators) will be responsible for the supply of their own racing PPE as normal plus a face mask and disposable hygienic gloves, the wearing of which will be at the discretion of the individual.

Arrival, Wrist Bands & Pit Parking
On arrival at Smeatharpe, drivers will be required to queue ahead of the pit gate entrance being opened.  Before entering the Pit Area, EVERY PERSON will be issued with a colour co-ordinated wrist band (one colour for the Driver, and a separate colour for the Mechanic/Spectators).
Once the wrist bands have been issued, and the transporter has been invited in the pit area, there will be a request to park in such a way that social distancing can be maintained.

Social Distancing
Maintain a minimum of 2m social distancing.  Where it is not possible to stay 2m apart, people should keep a distance of "one metre plus" - this means staying one metre apart, while observing precautions to reduce the risk of transmission.

Toilets
Toilets will be provided but social distancing must be maintained whilst queuing to use the facilities.

Camping
Camping at Smeatharpe is permitted on the evening of Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July.
Facilities will be minimal, and that is reflected in the fee of £10 per camping unit.
Again, this must be pre-booked.
