Smeatharpe Stadium - Sunday 24th October 2010

The penultimate Smeatharpe fixture of the season saw over 130 drivers in action, with the Saloon Stock Cars, in particular, producing a most lively and entertaining set of races.

Saloon Stock Cars

East Anglian 728 Kris Woods made his long trek west extremely worthwhile when he won the White & Yellow grade final.  Woods, whose only previous visit to Smeatharpe had been in June for the British Championship, swept to victory after a close battle with 995 Ben Goddard.  Late on, 65 Ian Willis made it to second, whilst Goddard survived a last bend challenge from 125 Mike Hibberd to hold on for third.  Yet, it was Woods who had the most to smile about, as he took top honours.
When the Saloon Stock Cars moved into the meeting proper, National Champion 120 Shane Brown was a class apart.  Despite plenty of action from the 21-car entry, Brown swept to a faultless hat-trick of victories.  Twice 328 Ian Govier finished as runner-up, whilst in the Club 21 sponsored final, Brown was followed home by English Champion 156 Darren Goudy and UK Champion 618 Stuart Shevill.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

F2 Nationals Champion 886 Chris Bradbury put the seal on the Smeatharpe Track Championship, when he romped to a heat and final double.  Bradbury, whose lead in the BriSCA F2 50 Series has been cut significantly this weekend, was a comfortable winner of the day's feature race, as he scooped the John Gregory Memorial Trophy Shield for his efforts.  254 Richard Beere and 276 Murray Jones were second and third respectively.
522 Chris Mikulla won the day's opening heat ahead of improving white top 916 Luke Thomas.  The consolation went to Murray Jones, whose brother 286 Todd Jones accounted for the end of meeting Allcomers event.

Bangers

More than 80 Bangers contested their last fixture at Smeatharpe for 2010, with 117 Ollie Starr notching a fine heat and final double.  Newcomer 775 Tom Clark did well on his debut, and scored enough points to earn an instant promotion to the star grade.  Clark was a heat winner, as was 235 Toby Brooks and there was further white grade success in the Allcomers as 716 Troy Holley took the chequered on his Smeatharpe track debut.
