United Downs Raceway - Sunday 21st March 2010

The season's second St Day race meeting featured plenty of exciting action, on a sunny Spring day in west Cornwall.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

A 25-car showing of F2s  produced a quintet of fine races.  The entry included 642 Dave Luscombe on his first appearance of the season, and 306 Neil Truran who made his first F2 appearance since 1986.  British Champion 886 Chris Bradbury looked imperious on his first westcountry visit of the season, but he was unable to reel in 522 Chris Mikulla in the feature race.  Heat one saw 877 Eddie Darby seal the win late on, and Bradbury took heat two when he dumped Mikulla and 76 Chris Rowe wide at the start of the final lap.  In heat three, Mikulla built up a sufficient lead that he was not caught.  Darby and 676 Neil Hooper crashed out of the final early on, as Bradbury made rapid progress up the order.  However, having climbed to second place, he ran out of time in his pursuit of Mikulla, who took the chequered flag to secure a return to the star grade.  Chris Rowe completed the top three, with 497 Piers Cockerill fourth.  All four cars subsequently passed the post-race weighing checks.  Bradbury won again in the Grand National, to complete a 38-point haul for the day.

Stock Rods

The Stock Rods were in a lively and fractious mood for their second St Day fixture of the season.  The opening race saw victory handed to 192 Simon Donnison after first-over-the-line 181 Lindsey Jones was disqualified for his altercation with 27 Andy Thomas.  In the final, 565 Phil Giles bounced back from an untidy display in the heat, to cruise to an impressive victory, ahead of Jones and 49 Kev Lock.  Thomas won the end of day Grand National, just holding on from 92 Adam Daniels.

Bangers

The car count record for Bangers at St Day was smashed for the second successive meeting.  An incredible entry of 68 drivers contested the season's first meeting for the Bangers.  The Taiya Densham Memorial Trophy final saw former Ministox star 910 Katie Dawe take the honours.  Even though she was caught and passed by 246 Ryan Sparks, Dawe responded brilliantly to send Sparks wide, glancing him off the pits bend fence as she reclaimed the lead.  617 Tim King finished as the runner-up on his first outing in the Bangers for three seasons, whilst 379 Nathan Stone completed the top three.  A manic Allcomers race saw Dawe roll over by the pit gate.  The flag fell on 619 Ross Thomas, but he failed post-race scrutineering and that handed the win to Supreme Champio 156 Kev Gooding.
